Joint HP-SEE, LinkSCEEM-2 and PRACE HPC Summer Training
The Joint HPC training organized by HP-SEE, LinkSCEEM-2 and PRACE, will gather scientists from the wide spectrum of fields this July in Athens, Greece.
The training aims to enhance the knowledge of current HPC users, and to engage new user communities in the use of HPC infrastructure. It will take place from 13th to 15th of July 2011 at the training Center of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE Academy) in Athens, Greece.
The content consists of lectures and hands-on sessions in the field of HPC usage for multi-disciplinary scientific research communities with the focus on parallel programming methods, performance analysis tools and code optimization. The lectures will be given by accredited PRACE, HP-SEE and LinkSCEEM trainers and experts in the HPC field.

Registration
Registration was open until the 1st of June and is now closed.
It is recommended that participants bring their own laptops for the hands-on sessions since training facilities does not provide PCs. Participants are also encouraged to work in teams of two.
The school can host up to 60 participants. Selection of participants will be based on their qualifications as declared in the registration form while extra care will be given so that participants from the regions of South Eastern Europe and Mediterranean countries that organise the school have the opportunity to attend the school.
Notification of acceptance to the training will be given to students no later than the 10th of June 2011.

- CUDA Programming
- Profiling
- Optimization and Benchmarking
Requirements for the hands on sessions
The hands on sessions are organized in a way that trainees should work in teams of two. Teams will be organized on the spot based on laptops availability.
Wifi access will be provided to all trainees that wish to connect their laptops to the network.
Internet access will be available for accessing the web to download the presentations and get information on the subjects of the training.
Further more for most of the hands on sessions trainees will be given access to HPC machines via SSH.
Therefore an ssh client is required in all laptops that will be used for the hands on.
For the profiling hands on session a LiveDVD will be provided to all trainees. Trainees will work again in pairs (as will all other hands on sessions). Therefore trainees are encouraged to bring laptops that have DVDs so that they can boot their machines with the provided DVD.

Please note that in order to receive the above rate, you should make your reservation by sending to President Hotel (either with fax or e-mail) a completed form which addresses only the summer training participants.

By metro (option1):
President is accessible when arriving at the Airport with Metro Line 3: "Egaleo - Athens International Airport"

By bus (option2)
Buses disembark passengers at the Departures Level and depart from the Arrivals Level, between Exits 4 and 5. The following public bus route serving exclusively the airport brings you to the President hotel:
X95 “Syntagma - Athens Airport (Express)”
At the Arrivals Level, take the X95 bus “Syntagma – Athens Airport (Express)”. The closest bus stop to President Hotel is “Pl. Ampelokipon” (Ampelokipi square). It takes 5 minutes to reach the hotel from this bus stop.
To reach Athens International Airport from President Hotel, take the X95 bus at “Karanika” bus stop, which is located at Michalakopoulou Avenue.

By taxi (option 3)
Taxis are available at the designated Taxi waiting area located at Exit 3 of Arrivals Level in AIA. Please note that coming to President hotel from the airport should cost around 30€.

Reaching Athens International Airport from the OTE Academy
Using the suburban rail (option1):
Athens International Airport is accessible when departing from the OTE Academy through the suburban rail. It’s a 7-minute walk from the OTE Academy to “Neratziotisa”, the closest station (see map).

The journey time from the OTE Academy to Athens International Airport is 25 minutes.
By taxi (option 2)
Going to AIA from the OTE Academy should cost around 25€.
Please inform the people at the registration desk well in advance if you need a taxi to go to the airport.
Using Public Transportation from President Hotel to the OTE Academy
The OTE Academy is accessible with public transportation, using the Athens metro and the Athens-Piraeus electric railway.
From President Hotel, take Metro Line 3 “Egaleo – Doukissis Plakentias” at Ampelokipi station (direction to Egaleo).
Change line at “Syntagma” metro station, and use line 2 “Aghios Dimitrios – Aghios Antonios” (destination to Aghios Antonios).
Change line at “Attiki” metro station, and take the Athens – Kiffissia electrical rail (line1, direction to Kifissia).
You should get off at “Neratziotisa” station, which is 10 minutes away (walking distance) from the OTE Academy.
To reach the OTE Academy from President Hotel, it takes around 50 minutes.
